KMT, Kuwait – Kuwait Motor Town successfully hosted the 5th round of the KMTC 2K Series Championship on the 24th of February 2024.
Round 5
An exciting fifth round saw six contestants racing on Kuwait Motor Town’s South Circuit layout with the return of Qatar’s Abdullah AlKhelaifi (Honda S2000) and Ibrahim AlMannai (Toyota 86). Four contestants from Kuwait with Ahmad AlGhanem (Honda S2000), Ahmad AlAyoub (Toyota 86), Mohammad AlAbdalrazzaq (Toyota 86), and Mohammad AlAmiri (Toyota 86).
Ahmad AlAyoub led the qualifying round in the Toyota 86, achieving the fastest lap time of 1:17.974 for pole position, followed by Ibrahim AlMannai in the Toyota 86, who had the fastest lap time of 1:18.555. Mohammad AlAbdalrazzaq in the Toyota 86 finished the qualifying round placing 3rd with a fastest lap time of 1:18.865, with Mohammad AlAmiri in the Toyota 86 qualifying in 4th position on the grid with a fastest lap time of 1:19.927. Ahmad AlGhanem in the Honda S2000 was in 5th position with a fastest lap time of 1:30.282 and a DNS for Abdullah AlKhelaifi to start in the last position on the grid for race 1.
Race 1
A thrilling race 1 saw Qatar’s Abdullah AlKhelaifi bounce back to take the lead after starting last on the grid with a total time of 14:27.654 and a fastest lap time of 1:15.594. Coming in second place was Kuwait’s Ahmad AlGhanem, who performed great after starting 5th on the grid, with a total time of 14:32.294 and a fastest lap time of 1:16.810.
The fight for 3rd place saw Kuwait’s Mohammad AlAbdalrazzaq and Qatar’s Ibrahim AlMannai battle it out on track from start to finish, with AlMannai taking the 3rd place podium in the final turn before the finish line. AlMannai recorded a total time of 14:36.755 with a fastest lap time of 1:17.254, and AlAbdalrazzaq with a total time of 14:36.832 and a fastest lap time of 1:18.116, only 0.077 seconds separating both drivers. Mohammad AlAmiri recorded a total time of 14:45.861 and a fastest lap time of 1:18.893. Pole position for race 1 Ahmad AlAyoub did not classify (DNC) after experiencing a mechanical issue and was not able to complete the minimum of 7 laps.
Race 2
Qatar’s Abdullah AlKhelaifi started race 2 from pole position after finishing in 1st place for race 1. AlKhelaifi led the race from start to finish in the Honda S2000 with a total time of 12:34.395 and a fastest lap time of 1:14.673. Kuwait’s Ahmad AlGhanem placed second, holding his position from the starting grid formation with a total time of 12:39.370 and a fastest lap time of 1:15.413. Mohammad AlAbdalrazzaq placed 3rd on the podium after a great performance, improving his total time to 12:59.533 and a fastest lap of 1:17.317. Mohammed AlAmiri placed 4th with a total time of 13:15.066 and a fastest lap of 1:18.819, followed by Ibrahim AlMannai with a total time of 13:43.450 and a fastest lap of 1:17.654. Ahmad AlAyoub did not start (DNS) after experiencing a mechanical issue during race 1.
